EARL208 Math in Early Childhood

Students learn theories and stages of cognitive development within the context of cultural, linguistic, and ability diversity. They learn about children’s use of math as a language to represent, construct, problem-solve and reason within the Art as a Way of Learning (AWL) framework. Students create and implement standards-based math learning experiences and environments using evidence based practices, including Universal Design for Learning. Students assess children’s learning and build reciprocal partnerships with families and professionals; they use community resources to support children’s growth and development. Weekly field experience hours are required outside of class time. To meet Pennsylvania department of education guidelines, students must have completed clearance paperwork on file with the department.
