Online Learning: Courses that Fit a Busy Schedule

Online Learning provides a convenient way to earn a college degree or college credits at home. More than 200 courses are offered 100% online. These courses have section labels that begin with “W” or “V”. Sections labeled with “W” begin at the start of semester and most “V” sections, unless otherwise indicated, begin 6 weeks later. A winter “Y” session is available 4 weeks over holiday break (up to 4 credits max). Online learning offers 6 semester starts which include a regular and mid-semester during fall and spring, a 10-week summer semester, and a 4-week winter session. The regular-start courses are 16 weeks in duration and mid-semester courses are 10 weeks.

Hybrid courses are another type of course, structured with a mix of online interaction, assignments, and assessments as well as some on-campus meeting times. Hybrid courses are denoted with sections beginning with “T” (Bethlehem Campus) or “7” (Monroe Campus).

Online learning courses are designed such that you will have some flexibility in your ability to access course content, submit assignments, and interact with your instructor and fellow students. However, online courses are not self-paced. Your instructor will give you deadlines for when your assignments need to be submitted. In addition, you will be required to be an active participant in your courses and courses will often require participating in discussion board forums. This will give you a unique opportunity to learn from both your instructor and your fellow online learning students

Students interested in online learning will need a computer, an internet connection, an active NCC email account, and a web browser such as Internet Explorer, Safari, Firefox, or Google Chrome. Students must be competent in the use of sending email messages with attached documents as well as using the Internet to search for and retrieve information. Online courses may also require students to use additional software, technologies, and equipment.

As part of the NCC’s initiative to improve student success and academic integrity, all online students are required to verify their student identity. Federal regulations require that all institutions must verify that the student who registers in an online learning course is the same student who participates in and completes the course.

Access to online support services, such as online tutoring and online Library services are available in your Blackboard course.
