EARL107 Observation & Assessment in Early Childhood

Students learn methods of observing, documenting, and assessing children’s learning from Birth to age 9 in the context of cultural and developmental variations. Students are introduced to learning standards and assessment tools for evaluating safe, healthy indoor and outdoor learning environments integrating Universal Design for Learning (UDL). Students learn how to use the Art as a Way of Learning® (AWL) framework to observe and assess children’s learning and development. Ethical and equitable practices in assessment are an area of focus. Observational field experience hours outside of class are required. Early childhood majors must complete and submit clearance paperwork as required by the Pennsylvania Department of Education.
