The Career Center also offers individualized help with resume and cover letter development, interview preparation, employer research, and more. Career Fairs are held at both the Bethlehem and Monroe campuses. Career Alumni panels, Table Talk Career Readiness Luncheons, and Spartan Career and Networking Summit and other unique programming is offered throughout the year. Early Care and Education Center

Reibman Hall Children Center offers a developmentally appropriate, arts integrated early care and education program for children ages six weeks through kindergarten. Entry is available to students at a reasonable, part-time or full-time fee. Hours are 7:30 am to 6:00 pm Monday-Friday year round. Applications and registrations are accepted on a continuing basis. Applications and registration forms are available in Bethlehem at the Children’s Center in Reibman Hall or at the NCC Student Enrollment Center, and on the college website. For more information call 610-861-5477. Students who qualify for financial aid should check with the Financial Aid Office to determine eligibility for assistance with childcare costs (610-861-5510). A limited amount of need based scholarship funds are also available. For more information about scholarship opportunities phone 610-332-6278.

Counseling, Health Center

Professional counselors are available to assist you with your transition to college; to provide academic counseling; to administer career interest, personality and aptitude tests; to provide guidance in career decision-making; and to provide short-term personal and substance abuse counseling. The members of the counseling staff value and respect each individual student’s privacy. To the extent possible counselors will not disclose information to anyone outside the counseling conversation or relationship without the student’s explicit written permission. However, disclosure may be necessary when it becomes evident that students present a clear and imminent danger to themselves or others. Students in need of therapy or medications are referred to local practices or agencies. Counseling staff members are available in College Center 341 and via video conference. Collegiate Recovery Program

NCC’s Collegiate Recovery Program is a voluntary, anonymous and free program tailored for students who are committed and active in their recovery from Substance Use Disorders. It provides an opportunity for students in recovery to relate, enjoy, and support each other during their time at NCC. There are weekly meetings, field trips, fun sober outings and volunteer opportunities. Litwak Dental Clinic

Current credit students (with ID verification) can have their teeth cleaned free of charge at the College’s dental clinic, located on the 3rd floor of Fowler Family Southside Center. Members of the greater College community can receive dental hygiene services for a reasonable fee. Any recommended x-rays (fee depends on the type of images) will be sent to your family dentist. Cleaning services are provided by dental hygiene students supervised by registered dental hygienists and dentists. Please call 610-861-5442 for appointment information.

Health and Wellness Center

The Health and Wellness Center, located in CC120, is managed by St. Luke’s Health Network and directed by a Registered Nurse. The Center offers on-site professional health care services to students and staff and provides first aid and care of minor illnesses and injuries. Students may also schedule appointments for physical examinations with the health center. COVID testing and contact tracing are handled by Health Center staff. All visits to the Health & Wellness Center are by appointment only.

An advanced practitioner is available for limited hours during the fall and spring semesters. Select prescription medications are available for a nominal fee when ordered by the health center providers. Health services also provides a self-care center where students may obtain first aid supplies, over the counter medications, and natural remedies for some illnesses.

Most immunizations and TB skin testing can be administered for a fee at the center. Referrals may also be made to physicians and hospitals located in the Lehigh Valley area and the Poconos, as needed.

Health and Wellness Center hours are Monday through Friday, 8:30 am to 4:00 pm when the college is open during the fall and spring semesters. Summer hours are Monday through Thursday, 7:30 am to 11:30 am. When the nurse is not on duty, emergencies should be referred to Public Safety, 610-861-5588.

Policy for Required Student Medical Examinations:

Students enrolled in the programs listed below or who are classified as On-Campus Housing Students are required to complete the Northampton Community College Health Form after acceptance into the program:

The specific health requirements may differ by program. Please refer to the health form or to specific program literature (i.e. Nursing Handbook, Apartment/Residence Hall Contract, etc.) for more details.

These requirements are regulated by contractual agreements and must conform to State Requirements.

  • All students living on campus and all Allied Health students are required to update their medical exam every two years. Students may choose to have their medical exam done by their family doctor, or arrangements can be made to have their medical exam done at the Health and Wellness Center for a small fee. Students should bring their immunizations record with them to that appointment.
  • All Allied Health programs require students to have an initial “two-step” tuberculin skin test (TST) and students must update their TST on a yearly basis. This may be performed by the student’s primary care provider or in the Health and Wellness Center.
  • Several Allied Health programs require a Urine Drug Screen which is coordinated by the director of the program.
  • The Early Childhood program students must have a medical examination every two years and a Tuberculin Skin Test within three months of the start of their initial NCC internship. These services are available for a nominal fee in the Health and Wellness Center.

New Choices

New Choices is a career and personal development program for single parents, re-entry homemakers, and people in career transitions. The program offers both day and evening career decision making classes that include career interest and aptitude assessments, career and educational exploration, resume writing, interview practice, communication skills for the workplace, confidence building, stress management, and goal setting. For students who are financially eligible, some scholarship assistance is available for child care to attend the New Choices class or for a small tuition award. The program is located at the Fowler Family Southside campus on the 6th floor, 610-332-6560, and on the Bethlehem campus in College Center 200, 610-861-5350.

KEYS

The KEYS program provides support services such as academic and career advising, counseling and incentives for most students who receive public assistance such as TANF or SNAP (food stamps). KEYS staff act as facilitators for students and as a liaison to the Pennsylvania Department of Human Services. The KEYS offices are located in College Center 105 and 106, (610-861-5310) on the Bethlehem Campus and Keystone 110 (570- 369-1878) on the Monroe Campus.

Spartan Aid

Spartan Aid services assist students to evaluate their financial and personal situation to identify and resolve any non-academic barriers to college success. For example, an independent student with dependent children who works at a low-wage job may find it difficult or impossible to pay all of her/his bills. Spartan Aid staff may help that student to identify his/her eligibility for SNAP (food stamps) or other benefits (such as healthcare) available through college, state, or federal sources. Securing SNAP benefits may allow a student to feed his/her family and release needed funds for other expenses, allowing that student to stay in school to finish a degree. Small no-interest loans are available for textbooks and/or emergencies.
Spartan Aid staff is knowledgeable about a variety of college and community resources and will refer and/or assist students with the process of applying for these services online or in person. H.O.P.E Food Pantry

NCC’s Nursing Student Organization established an on-campus food pantry to serve their fellow students who face food insecurity. The doors of the Helping Our Peers Excel (HOPE) Food Pantry first opened for students in fall 2016 at the Bethlehem Campus in Penn Hall, Room 122B.
Staffed by student and staff volunteers, the pantry provides non-perishable food items supplied by Second Harvest Food Bank and gathered through college food drives. The pantry also welcomes donations of non-perishable foods, toiletry items, and diapers.

Students will be asked to show a valid student ID. The schedule is available at northampton.edu/hope-food-pantry.htm; students can also request assistance on days that the pantry is not open by stopping by the Nursing Department in Penn Hall.

Housing and Residence Life

Increase your connection to campus and expand upon your educational and leadership opportunities by applying to live on campus. Students with Disabilities

Northampton Community College is actively involved in providing services to students with disabilities. The College encourages academically qualified students with disabilities to take advantage of its educational programs. Services and accommodations are available to facilitate accessibility to both College programs and our facilities.

Accommodations provided to students with disabilities are based upon each student’s individual needs and must be indicated by current documentation of disability. It is the student’s responsibility to provide this documentation.

Though not required, students can speak about concerns first with their Disability Services Specialist to achieve a satisfactory resolution. Any student who is uncertain about whether to come forward with an informal complaint or whether to file a formal grievance can consult with the Director, Advising and Accommodation Services.

Service Animal

Students requiring the use of service animals on campus are strongly encouraged, but not required, to contact the Office of Disability Services (DS Office). The DS Office will be able to provide information on campus disability related resources, including communication with course professors and any questions/concerns you may have regarding the use of the service animal. This information provided to the DS Office is confidential and will only be released with the student’s consent.

Transferring

Do you plan on transferring? The Advising and Transfer Services in CC341 has current information on educational institutions and training programs. Information is also available on articulation agreements NCC has with other institutions. Each semester NCC holds a transfer fair, with over 40 colleges attending, to provide information and answer your questions. Tutoring/Academic Support

 

The Learning Center’s tutors and academic coaches work with students to improve their academic skills and confidence in their college classes. Students who use the Learning Center are more likely to succeed in their college goals. Tutoring is available for most credit-bearing classes, and academic coaching can improve performance in any credit-bearing course at NCC. The Learning Center’s services are available to all NCC students at Bethlehem, Monroe, and online.

Student Life & Leadership Development

The Student Life & Leadership Development department is dedicated to providing extracurricular experiences for NCC students. The department provides on and off campus programming, leadership development classes, and houses all student clubs and organizations.
