EDUC115 Education for All Students

This course provides a broad-based overview of professional education: including philosophy, history, organization, ethics, and current issues of education. The course focuses on the effective teaching of all students with an introduction to important theorists, child development, and diversity. The unique characteristics and needs of English Language Learners are considered. Students learn to create a lesson plan, assemble a professional portfolio, and complete ten hours of field experiences. By the end of the course students will understand the path to teacher certification in PA, including how to demonstrate Basic Skills Competency. The Pennsylvania Department of Education requires that all students participating in field experiences must provide the documentation listed below. 1. FBI Federal Criminal History Record (Act 114); 2. PA State Police Criminal Record Check (Act 34); 3. PA Child Abuse History Clearance (Act 151); 4. Mandated and Permissive Reporting in PA Online Training (Act 31); 5. Arrest/Conviction Report and Certification Form (Act 24); 6.TB (Mantoux) test. Pre-req. - Reading and writing competency as determined for ENGL101.
